Many snacks, including potato crisps, can be high in Syns. So, how do you make a healthier version with lower Syns?

Directions

After slicing your potato (I suggest a smaller potato since larger slices might not fit well in the tray), lay the slices on a piece of kitchen paper or similar and add your chosen seasonings. I opted for sea salt in this instance, but feel free to experiment with other spice blends too.

Then, place one slice in each compartment, and you’re set to cook them in the microwave. I estimate they will need about6 minutes but check on them after 4 1/2 minutes. They should develop a golden-brown hue when ready, as shown in the next image

Once you remove them from the microwave, take them out of the holder straight away and transfer them to your bowl to cool, or else they may stick together.

As can be seen, this provides a satisfying serving from a small potato, and it’s low in Syns as well.

Here are a few spice mix ideas; place them in a small ziplock bag and label it, so you can season your chips as you wish. I suggest adding the spices after cooking the potatoes.

CAJUN SPICE BLEND

This recipe is sufficient for fries for 2 people (double for more servings)

• 1 teaspoon paprika
• 1 teaspoon cumin
• 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
• 1/2 teaspoon thyme
• 1/2 teaspoon oregano
• 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
• Salt and black pepper to taste
